Hi ,
Wowza! The past week has been A LOT to take in (and certainly the past few as well). Are you all feeling a little fried like me? I've been coping by watching home building shows on CBC and eating all the frozen leftovers out of my freezer, but as I'm sure you know, that's not ideal.
Truthfully, another thing I've been doing is connecting more with awesome people on calls. It takes a lot for me to muster up the courage to email someone, even if we know each other well. I make up stories that they're busy, or I'm bugging them, or that they wouldn't want to bother taking the time to talk. And yet, the replies are nearly immediate and
always positive. I really don't like small talk, so our conversations are rich and always leave me better off. This has been a balm in a time where the world is sorely disconnected personally, and yet hyper-connected online.
Business-wise, as I've told you previously, I'm doubling down on simplicity. I'm sick of my money
being "lost" to the void of online services and instead I'm trying to redirect it to real humans. Sometimes that's locally by donating to the school or some other cause in need, and I hope it will also be by offering affiliate payments or referral rewards to those who spread the word about what I'm doing. That money goes directly to people instead of through a massive corporation. I still have some necessary subscription services (how I'm sending you this email, for example), but I'm
being discerning where I can be.
What are you doing to cope in these crazy times? How are you adapting your business to meet your financial needs and your values?
Someone I admire
for her ability to speak up and take action when the world is bananas is Lauren Van Mullem. I've told you about her ethical copywriting services, and her promo for business owners who support women. She's the co-host of the podcast I shared last week.
Next week she's hosting a workshop with Danielle Heyns called Writing Through
the Whirlwind and I absolutely want to tell you about it.
It's a somatic writing workshop to create values-driven social media marketing in tough times.
Here's how she
talks about it:
A NEW WORKSHOP FOR VALUES-DRIVEN SOCIAL MEDIA
(AND THE INNER WORK TO WRITE WHAT YOUR PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR)
- In this ACTIVE workshop, you'll be
moving through exercises to calm your nervous system and ground yourself so the right words flow. It'll be fun, relaxing, thought-provoking and heart-opening!
- You'll learn how to USE your Fight / Flight / Freeze / Appease response to write even better content, instead of having those reactions block your ability to write (which they often do!).
- We will write at least
one social media post on the call, while you're grounded and inspired.
- PLUS, you'll leave with a never-seen-before template: Social Content for Tough Times with 10 ideas and prompts for creating conscious content.
When: A 90-minute workshop on February 10th, 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern
(For NZDT: Feb 11th, 12pm!). Yes, it will be recorded!
How much? $60
Bring: A yoga mat, blanket or any kind of padding to make moving on the floor comfortable. Suitable for all
mobility levels.
